FICTION

Nature Survival, War, and other Hardship

RUNAWAY TWINS IN ALASKA (Runaway Twins series #2)
“Rachel, Janie, and Justin (trained by his father and uncle as a survivalist) are back--this time in wilderness Alaska where they battle bears, bad guys, and nature's fury. The Prophet of the polygamous cult of Sheba Hill reaches out from prison to have the Lemon twins kidnapped and transported to Whitehorse in the Yukon where he has established his new God's Way Temple. He still considers the girls his double portion from God and he wants them waiting for him when he's released on appeal. And the Prophet pays extra to make certain their companion Justin Patrick, whom he hates for rescuing the twins in Montana's Bitterroot Mountains, is eliminated and buried deep in Alaska's Yuktapah Preserve. A long-dormant volcano explodes; earthquakes gobble up canyons, lakes, and rivers; and grizzly sows and boars make it clear they can't be controlled. The pressure on the three teenagers never lets up. Each time they think they've gained the victory, they encounter new and more difficult obstacles.”
The first in the series, RUNAWAY TWINS (Runaway Twins series #1), was listed here before too. It is also an escape story involving wilderness survival.

Politics, Terrorism, and Intrigue/Conspiracy

Division Six
” A rich man's daughter disappears in Florida starting a chain of events that brings detective Jack Hennessey into the center of an international conspiracy. Now he struggles to find answers about his past as a secret arms race explodes around him. Will Jack, and those like him, be able to use their powers to save the world or will their own demons destroy us all? Action-packed and hard as nails, "Division Six" is an instant techno-thriller classic.”

The Platukin Gambit
” Did the Soviet Union die or did it merely change its shape and name? The Platukin Gambit explores the cunning and miscalculations of Vladimir Platukin, Premier of the Soviet Union, who plans an intricate scenario to bring down the West, with the help of China and Japan.”
From the Author “When the Soviet Union suddenly collapsed, I was somewhat skeptical that it should have done so with such rapidity. … Although this is a fictional work, much of what I composed turned out to be true. The old Soviet Union is far from dead. Putin is beginning to look a lot like Platukin.”

Time of The Eagle
” a frightening insight into what our future could hold if we continue our crazy habit of allowing mediocre people to run our affairs. It contains spectacular flying, intrigue and terrorism, culminating in an attack on the leaders of Europe.”

Collapse, Post-Apocalypse, Speculative Futures

When the Levee Breaks (Outage Series)
” When the Levee Breaks, the second book of the Outage Series, starts with the apocalyptic tale only half told...  Back in 2026, the lights have been off for four days and things in Saint John, New Brunswick are getting worse by the minute. Worried about his safety after watching a nearby building burn to the ground, he's moved to leave his apartment. But without any family or friends in the area, Hendricks must develop his survival instincts on-the-fly as he struggles to cope with life unplugged. His travels eventually lead him to the Saint John Regional Hospital where he decides to drop his reclusive ways and pitch in with relief efforts. But the arrival of a mysterious US Air Force jeep, containing a three-star general dying of advanced radiation poisoning and a disabled robot soldier, changes things in a hurry. When Hendricks uses his computer science skills to repair the robot, he comes face-to-face with an artificial intelligence no longer constrained by its military programming. After the rebuild, Hendricks uses the robot – eventually dubbed ‘Max’ – to gain a disturbingly clear picture of the scope of the emergency and the reasons behind it. With little else to lose, Hendricks makes an attempt to bring justice to those responsible. It’s a decision that puts him on a collision course with his fate, over 150 years in the future.”

Memoria. A Corporation of Lies (An Action-Packed Technothriller)
High reviews. Post-apocalyptic dystopian action novel. “In the burned out, bombed out New York City of the future, Frank Shelby is accused of the murder of a woman he knows only as Kathleen. So begins his odyssey in a post-apocalyptic world where the Memoria Corporation offers a cure for all your ills by erasing memories of unpleasant things….” From a review: “In futuristic New York City, Memoria Corporation offers a service that people cannot refuse erasing traumatic memories from a person's mind. Frank Shelby comes home one day to find his girlfriend lying strangled in his bed leading him into the maze that is Memoria. He must infiltrate Memoria to clear his name and as he does so he soon stumbles onto something much more heinous. ... not only is it an adult novel (most dystopian novels lately have been geared towards young adults) but it is also plausible. The citizens must wear electronic bracelets that track the persons movements, also people who were born after the great war must have their memories wiped every year by law, add in the big bad monster is a corporation you have an interesting take on what the future could be. I have to say that this novel reminded me a lot of 1984, though with a much better ending, so if you enjoyed that one you will most definitely like this one. All in all it's a great read full of espionage and conspiracy and the best side of humanity's survival instinct.”

The Beginning (The New Land)
” the year 2021 and things have changed. There is no government, no cultural freedoms, or even free speech. This is the New Land, formerly known as America. The leader, a mysterious figure known as the Supreme, has taken things too far. People are being mistreated, personal liberties are being ripped away, and there seems to be no hope left. It's up to the Clan, a group of self-proclaimed liberators, to bring justice to the suffering.”

THE FALL OF MAN Vol. IV
Final in series of 4, all of which have been listed here at various times.. “Immersed in her captor's apocalyptic ideology, Katrina learns that they're on crusade to bring peace to the Middle East--no matter what the cost. If she can't prevent their misguided ploy, a scourge will befall humanity, redefining our interpretation of the word MANKIND. In an attempt to prevent Armageddon, IT'S CREATED!!!”

Forty Days to Armageddon
” The day the Iranians set off a 40 megaton nuke marked the beginning of a new world order. The Western World is panic stricken with the thought that Iran threatens first Israel, then the entire world with nuclear destruction. The Iranian president continues his ranting at the UN that Allah has willed the destruction of the evil Zionists. Old hostilities are tossed aside and new alliances are formed in smoke filled backrooms of the UN, the Kremlin and the White House. Third world nations suddenly become strategically important and the super powers struggle to sort it all out and battle for position. The stakes could not be higher. “
The sequel, Forty Days to Armageddon II, Watchdogg and the Ghost Army, was just listed here on December 19.

More Sci-Fi-or-Fantasy-ish

The Winds of War (The Earthfire Series)
” The prequel and Book 1 in the Earthfire Series, … sets the background for the series. It is set in the year 2084 where the earth is facing an apocalyptic war as well as the extinction of all life through the destruction of the last remaining forests. This is a dystopian world of Cyborgs, Androids, Drones and tract farming. Giant multinational corporations that are engaged in a frantic race to control the last resources in an overpopulated planet.“

Just Reading
Born Sleeping. A mother's diary of stillbirth, loss, love and healing.

Bats and Bones (The Frannie Shoemaker Campground Mysteries)
” Frannie and Larry Shoemaker are retirees who enjoy weekend camping with their friends in state parks in this new cozy mystery series. They anticipate the usual hiking, campfires, good food, and interesting side trips among the bluffs of beautiful Bat Cave State Park for the long Fourth of July weekend—until a dead body turns up. Confined in the campground and surrounded by strangers, Frannie is drawn into the investigation. Frannie’s persistence and curiosity helps authorities sort through the possible suspects and motives, but almost ends her new sleuth career—and her life—for good. As a bonus, each chapter ends with a camping tip or recipe—some useful, some not so much.”

The Sun Village Project
” Jacqueline Gardens is a controversial neuroscientist whose schizophrenic father and psychopathic uncle inspire her to invent a ground breaking drug that could change the way the world views and treats the criminal mind. Her “potion” (which works fastest as an injection) is specifically designed to suppress the excessive level of monoamine oxidase A, the gene most scientists believe causes the chemical imbalance in the serial killer’s brain. See what happens when a handpicked group of serial killers, mass murderers, and animal abusers are transported to The Sun Village Project, a true rehabilitation center for the mentally demented. …”
