NONFICTION

General self-sufficiency and survival

“Now America's foremost survival author gives you and your loved ones the tips and secrets you’ll need to prevail in a dangerous world. Whether you’re concerned about localized disasters, government meltdown, or an end-of-civilization catastrophe, this manual tells you how to survive the worst, and how to survive it in style. Easy-to-read chapters offer information you’ll find nowhere else, revealing practical instructions covering everything from dealing with the next super storm, to living through to a government collapse, to surviving terrorist attacks and war. Chapter after chapter offers detailed, lifesaving plans: How to feed your family (for just pennies a day) if the stores are closed, how to heat your home if the gas and electricity are out, and how to protect your loved ones from rioters and looters when the police are nowhere to be found. You’ll also discover ways to minimize damage to your home and belongings before an earthquake, storm, or other natural disaster as well as what you must do after such events to quickly recover and remain safe. The result of decades of hands-on experience, this manual was written by an author who’s no stranger to preparing for the worst. Duncan Long has been writing survival books and articles since the late 1970s; buyers of his manuals include the FBI, CIA, and US Marines. His articles have appeared in American Survival Guide, the Journal of American Civil Defense, and Modern Survival Magazine. “

Identity Theft: Don't Be A Victim (illustrated)
”In the course of a hectic day, you may write a check at the grocery store, charge tickets to a basketball game; rent a car or video, mail your tax returns, change service providers for your cell or home phone, or apply for a credit card. Chances are you do not give these everyday transactions a second thought. But an identity thief does. Identity theft is a serious crime. People whose identities have been stolen can spend months or years – and many thousands of dollars – clearing up the mess the thieves have made of a good name and credit record. “

------
The following author has written dozens of books. The one I read had his article, then the other half of it was promoting his other books. This doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any good info, but I just wouldn’t normally list them as I don’t like that tactic. Today he has two on the specific subject for free I thought I’d list them and you can decide.

The Accidental Anarchist
“By the time he was twenty-five years old, Jacob Marateck had been a Jewish officer in the notoriously anti-Semitic Russian army during the Russo-Japanese War, a revolutionary who sought to overthrow the Czar, and sentenced to death three times. After avoiding the firing squad for the final, unlikely time, he escaped from a Siberian forced labor camp with Warsaw's colorful "King of Thieves." Together, the two struggled to survive and obtain false papers to travel home while avoiding the Secret Police. Told from Marateck's uniquely humorous perspective, The Accidental Anarchist is the remarkable, true story of an ordinary man made extraordinary by participating in the history-making events of the 1900s in Russia and Poland. Throughout all the hardships he endured, he never lost his optimism, which was key to his survival.”

Nature Survival, War, and other Hardship

Promise Breaker (Promise of Zion)
Youth. “A search for a homeland in a world darkened by war… Dov Zalinski has nothing left in the ruins of World War 2—only the promise his mother made when she left him at a Warsaw orphanage: 'I’ll come back for you, and together we’ll go to Jerusalem.' Seven hard years later, she still hasn't returned. On the hope that she and the rest of his family have somehow survived the terrible Nazi death camps and went on ahead of him, the thirteen-year-old sets out alone for the Promised Land. Dov is determined to be with his family again… even if it means risking his life to do it. Emily Parkinson has it all as the spoiled only child of a British major stationed in 1947 Jerusalem. Her cozy, perfect world has cushioned her from the always-present danger that haunts the people of Palestine—until now. Tensions between Arab and Jew are growing fast as ships of illegal Jewish immigrants try to break through the British barricade. Now, not even Emily’s father will be able to protect her from what she is about to face.”

Lovely children’s book

If I Were A Robot (A fun picture book for children 3-6!)

Unfinished Gift, The: A Novel
“Patrick Collins is seven years old, and on his Christmas list are only three items. He wants the army to find his father. He wants to leave his grandfather's house. And, for reasons even he doesn't understand, he wants the soldier that's tucked away in his grandfather's attic. Set at Christmastime in 1943, The Unfinished Gift tells in an engaging, simple style the story of a family, and reminds us of the surprising things that affect powerful change in our hearts--like a young boy's prayers, a shoebox full of love letters, and even an old wooden soldier, long forgotten. This nostalgic story of forgiveness will engage readers everywhere.”

Finding Drake
“Fifteen-year-old Drake can’t stand his Grandpa. Abandoned years ago by his alcoholic mother, Drake is forced to care for this crazy old man suffering from Alzheimer’s, a disease he doesn’t understand. And his resentment worsens when Grandpa commits a common Alzheimer’s offense: he wanders and disappears. This sparks a desperate missing person search – desperate because Grandpa is lost in a Minnesota winter – and Drake suddenly finds himself thrust in the middle of a media frenzy. The national spotlight draws out some of Grandpa’s old Vietnam War buddies, and their stories reveal a hero much different than the confused old man Drake has always known. His resentment melts, and this adds to his desperation – he must find the old man and tell him he’s sorry before it’s too late. In this incredible story of forgiveness Drake’s pursuit of Grandpa turns into a pursuit of something much grander that will ultimately change his life.”
