Please see the sidebar at right for a quick explanation of this blog. Have fun getting new books! :)
May I suggest that you check daily so you don't miss all those available for only 24 hours?

If you were here yesterday, you'll remember that I only had time for the non-fiction and a few notifications.  Well, later in the evening I came back for fiction, etc.  Some of those have already expired, but because it was so late, I've included the ones that are still free in today's listing.

Silvival: Confessions of a Silver Sniper
“Economic doom and gloom throughout the world has people searching for order to the chaos. Can America be Saved from Stupid People and other essays
Collection of writings by a columnist from Backwoods Home magazine. “There are two reasons why I decided to compile into a book some of the columns I’ve written for Backwoods Home Magazine over the past 23 years. First, they are well written, concise, and to the point about topics that every American needs to understand, especially when it concerns freedom and the growing shadow of oppressive government. Second, the columns offer historical perspective to aid in that understanding. At the ends of some columns, I’ve given the dates they were originally published, and I’ve added postscript notes when necessary to bring things up to date. Although most of these columns are brief and easy to understand, the book is not an easy read. Most of the topics covered require reflection and introspection…This volume contains most of the original columns published in 2007, plus 23 others written since then. For the most part, I’ve left the original columns alone, as they often predicted what I saw as the likely outcomes of emerging events. For those interested in America’s future, this will be a worthwhile read. My goal is to ignite the flame of freedom in you, or to fan it if you already feel as I do.”

The Last Election
from review: " the events in this story centers around the final presidential election in the United States before the alleged end time of 2012. There is a lot of action and parts of it almost had an Indiana Jones feel, with archeology and ancient prophecies and mysteries. The plot was wonderful, but I really felt like the characters drove this story."

Collapse, Post-Apocalypse, Speculative Futures

"Y"
“The year is 2011, the place, New York City. A mysterious microbe has begun to infect women of child-bearing age. Though the medical establishment writes it off as a simple flu, and the epidemic appears to be dying out, a young New York obstetrician confronts a conundrum. In the past year, the ratio of boys to girls born in her practice has declined precipitously. Dr. Deborah Kruger suspects the truth: that infected women are no longer able to give birth to male children. With the help of her husband Larry, a computer analyst, Deborah tracks the epicenter to New York City, from which the infection is already bursting forth. And, as years pass, despite hundreds of laboratories at work on it, the microbe continues to overrun borders and envelop the Earth. With Science unable to stop it, and the contagion rippling worldwide in an AIDS-like pandemic, how will society cope in an increasingly female world?”

Counting Down (An End of the World Love Story)
“As news reports from all over the globe start reporting disaster, Abby realizes her dreams are becoming reality. In the hopes of surviving, she flees to her family farm in Kansas where an old fallout shelter is buried underground. Upon her arrival she meets Kyle Windstone, a very unusual Mid-west farmer with equally unusual abilities. .. Together they will learn what it takes to survive and find the courage to love along the way.”

The Adventures of Redman Red
“In the "Adventures of Redman Red" we have a glimpse into a strangely familiar world - Planet Earth a few years from now. Fuel is worth more than gold, the sea levels have risen dramatically, and most of the remaining human population live fearful, conformist lives in isolated, self-sufficient city-states, run by sophisticated, but increasingly paranoid, artificial intelligences. Outside, the marginalised and cast-out have reverted to a happier, tribal existence; as the neglected countryside has reverted to lush wilderness. “

Fifth Age of the Maya (Maya 2012)

Arrogant Wealth
“The year is 2031 and United States economy is on a roll. Jobs are plentiful, roads and bridges are being revamped and new travel technology has been invented. The Federal Bureau of Collections has pumped billions upon billions of dollars towards the cause through aggressively collecting a controversial new tax assessed on the ultra-rich. Crime and drug activity are under control as President Quinton James Bates rules with an iron fist….”

Gabriel's Journal (Journal Series)
Sequel to Journal which was free before I started this blog, so I have it, but it hasn’t been listed here yet. It’s very highly reviewed, and only $1.99. See the link for its plot. This book, the sequel, “takes place in the year 2054, after global warming, disease, and war have taken a devastating toll on the human population, resetting the clock back 250 years. A group of survivors in the small town of Woburn, Washington have endured it all — starvation, disease, and attack by those who want to take from them the few resources they have. And now, they are finally beginning to enjoy the rewards of all their hard work and sacrifice. One of the Woburn survivors is a headstrong, quick tempered, young man named Gabriel Sanchez. When something occurs that he believes just might destroy everything his town has worked for, he takes up pen and paper to record it all, as it happens. And it is through his carefully written journal entries that the reader learns of events that are even worse than he imagined. It is also through these journal entries that another struggle plays out; the struggle to strike a balance between morality and reality in a world where one man will take another’s life for a warm coat or just a single potato.”

Barbie Bailey and The End of the World
Short story. “A tale of Barbie Bailey, a man short on luck, having fun with his final day on earth and discovering some things about himself and society as a whole.”

More Sci-Fi-or-Fantasy-ish

The following two books are books 2 and 3 in a series. All three have high reviews, though the numbers of them decrease with each book which makes sense as the first would have been out longer. Book 1, The Angel & the Brown-eyed Boy (Tales from Earth's End) has been listed here free before. However it’s only .99 for those who didn’t get it then.
To set the story, book 1 (not free today): “Welcome to a future world only heartbeats from our own. By the late 22nd century, the Great Recession of the early 2000s has lead to a worldwide police state. A ruined United States barely functions. Government control masks chaos, dissenters are sent to camps, and technology is outlawed. War rages while the authorities proclaim the Great Peace. IT'S NEW YORK CITY ON THE EVE OF NUCLEAR ARMAGEDDON. JOIN ELIANA & JEREMY AS THEY BEGIN A QUEST TO SAVE TWO DOOMED PLANETS . . . AND FIND EACH OTHER. “
Lady Grace: A Thrilling Adventure Wrapped in the Embrace of Epic Love (Tales from Earth's End 2)
Book 2: “a few survivors of the nuclear holocaust make their way back to Piermont Manor, Jeremy Edgarton's ancestral estate. The radiation is gone and it's finally safe to go home. What awaits them makes their worst dreams look like Bollywood frolics. Right away, they find out that evolution can work for evil as well as good. Going home requires a battle more deadly than any they've fought.”
Sam & Emily: A Love Story from the Underground (Tales from Earth's End 3)
Book 3: “When Sam Baahuhd carries a naked stranger into the underground bomb shelter on the Piermont estate, he has no idea she will ignite his world. Nuclear radiation traps Sam and Emily and the rest of the village's residents in an echoing cement cavern three hundred feet beneath the earth's surface. There is no escape from the underground. Not for them. Or their children, or their children's children . . .”

“If you want to build an environmentally friendly house, garage or barn from natural materials, this is the e-book for you. Explore the pros and cons of building with straw, logs, cordwood, earth and local lumber. Learn how to manage local building codes and inspections. And find out how you can design any home to take advantage solar heat and natural cooling. Plus, we’ve included extra articles on green roofing options, used building materials and choosing the perfect plaster.
The one poor review is due to formatting; they agree the info is excellent. In my read through the sample the headings looked wonky but the articles were very readable.
